How to watch Instagram stories anonymously
Inside the app, every story you open adds your name to the owner's viewer list. This page asks Instagram for an account's live stories through our servers and you never log in, so Instagram has no account of yours to add to that list.
Anonymous does not mean careless. A story is meant to be short-lived, and a person who posts one for their followers may not expect strangers to watch. Use the viewer for curiosity, research or catching up on a public figure, and do not repost what you did not make.
Why a story may not play
Press Play and the video streams from Instagram through our server. Playback needs a recent browser and a steady connection. If your browser cannot play the file, or Instagram has stopped serving it, the player is replaced by a short note and the Download button still works, so you can open the saved file in any player.
Stories last 24 hours, so one you saw an hour ago may be gone now. Photos load in the page and need no player.
What this viewer can and cannot show
It shows the live stories of public accounts and nothing more. It cannot show a private account's stories, tell you who viewed your own story, or bring back a story that has expired. Highlights, the stories an owner pinned to their profile, are on the highlights page.
If you only want the files, the story downloader lists stories as a grid you can save from, and the profile viewer shows an account's posts and Reels.

Can I watch Instagram stories without an account?
Yes, for public accounts. Enter the username, press View Stories and play the stories on this page. You do not sign in anywhere.
Will the person see that I viewed their story?
No. Instagram adds a name to the viewer list only for a logged-in account that opens the story. Here you are not logged in, so no name is added.
Why does the video not play?
Your browser may not support the file, your connection may have dropped, or Instagram may have stopped serving it. Press Download to save the story and play it in any player.
Can I view stories from a private account?
No. Only the stories of public accounts can be fetched without logging in.
How long are stories available?
For 24 hours after they are posted. The age on each card shows how much time is left. For older material, check the account's highlights.
Can I see who viewed my own story here?
No. The viewer list of your own story is only shown to you, inside Instagram.
Is the story viewer free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no charge, apart from a short fair-use pause if you make a great many requests in a minute.
