How to see an Instagram profile picture in full size

Updated October 30, 2026

Tap a profile picture in the Instagram app and you get a slightly larger circle, and that is it. The platform stores a much bigger image. Here is how to see it.

The quick way

Open the DP downloader, type the username and press View DP. The picture opens at the largest size Instagram holds, normally up to 1080 pixels square, with a button to save it as a JPG. It works for any public profile, and for the profile picture of a private account, which Instagram shows publicly.

Why the in-app view is small

Instagram optimises for speed. It serves a 150-pixel version in lists and a 320-pixel version on the profile, and the full-resolution file is only fetched by tools that ask for it. Screenshotting the small version gives you a blurry result, which is why a proper download looks so much better.

What you can do with it

Check whether two accounts use the same picture, which helps spot impersonators. Save a contact's picture with their consent. Look at a brand's logo in detail. Do not use someone's photo to pretend to be them, and do not publish it without permission. A profile picture is a personal image.

Frequently asked questions

Does the person get notified?

No. Looking up a profile picture does not notify the account.

Why is the picture still small?

Some accounts only uploaded a small picture. You get the largest version that exists.
